Course of the Week: Trump National Doral Golf Club Miami

We had the amazing opportunity to play at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami in March 2022. Little did we know that it was during the annual Trump Challenge, which both Donald Trump and his son Eric Trump participated in. Unfortunately, the Blue Monster course was closed during our visit, but we still had a fantastic time exploring the other three renowned courses at Doral.

Doral is truly a golfer's paradise, with its four legendary courses: Blue Monster, Red Tiger, Golden Palm, and Silver Fox. The Blue Monster, which has hosted PGA events for the past 50 years and this year's Liv Golf Miami, is already acclaimed worldwide. It underwent a restoration in 2014, making it even more challenging and dramatic. With strategically placed bunkers, long fairways, undulating greens, Bermuda rough, and water hazards, the Blue Monster demands both length and finesse from golfers. Its 18th hole is famously one of the most difficult on the PGA TOUR and has witnessed many great moments in golf history.

While the Blue Monster may be the most well-known course at Trump National Doral Miami, the Red Tiger also provided a thrilling experience for us. With 14 out of 18 holes featuring water and two island greens, it was a lot of fun navigating the challenges of this New England-style layout. Designed by Gil Hanse, Red Tiger requires accuracy and precision to score well.

Next, we had the pleasure of playing the Golden Palm course. This course is truly a sight to behold, with countless palm trees adorning the landscape. Featuring unique bunkers, thick rough, and contoured greens, Golden Palm's links-style layout offers an unforgettable golfing experience. Water comes into play on every hole, culminating in an exciting island green on the 18th hole.

Lastly, we played the Silver Fox course on our final day at Doral.. With water hazards on 17 of the 18 holes and strategically placed bunkers, it required precise shots off the tee and challenging approaches to the green. The course's breathtaking views, narrow landing areas, and true, fast greens made it both beautiful and intimidating. This was a test of our golf game for sure!

Throughout our time at Doral, we couldn't help but notice the presence of Donald and Eric Trump, as they were hosting their own tournament. While it made certain areas crowded, or closed all together it added to the excitement and created lasting memories. The patriotic atmosphere of the resort was also remarkable. And let's not forget the joy of sinking long putts, multiple chip ins, and too many birdies drained! The most humorous memory was Mark getting pooped on by a bird! People say it is good luck, we thought it was because of the personalization he had on his ball that he wanted to give to Trump, or the thought he had about it
All in all, our visit to Trump National Doral Golf Club was unforgettable. Each course offered its own unique challenges and stunning landscapes. Whether it was the famous Blue Monster, the engaging Red Tiger, the beautiful Golden Palm, or the demanding Silver Fox, we cherished every moment on these world-class courses.
