Couple Questions with Jason Rhoades
Our typical way we tend to get golfers ready for our first meeting, whether in person or not we tend to ask a series of questions to get their golf mind flowing and know what to talk about or think about! When we sat down with Jason in our first Episode of Couple Birdies A golf Podcast here are some of our highlights!
We asked a Couple Questions to Jason, for the list of questions 1-3:
Q: Could you please provide some information about yourself, including your age, school, and the golf team you play on? Q: Can you share any stats regarding your performance in tournaments, such as your scoring average? Q: Do you have any goals or dreams related to golf that you'd like to share?
Attached some pictures and stat sheet of golf wins. My playing golf has been limited last 5 years with having a daughter now, but I have been able to find my game here and there. My life has changed since Nevra and schedule revolves around her and Stacey. I average one round of golf a week during the summer. Some recent results below as used snip it tool so you can see. My USGA handicap is 1 and on golf am tour handicap is 3.5. I basically been scratch since playing golf after college, but the game and swing get bad when take too much time off just like anyone. I started playing golf freshman year college. I was a goalie and my sport was hockey as played high school and college at Concordia College. Walked onto the golf team Concordia College sophomore year after try outs and got to play free golf division 3. Graduated 1995. Had some respectable rounds and results here and there, but did not start breaking par until moved down to California 1997. Played mini tour events and attended Professional Golfers Career College and graduated 1999. One professional win, but too many good players and decided not good enough. I had a great time down in California and competed at PGCC and community college events. Came back home year 2000 and worked at Grandview The Pines and Preserve as Assistant pro. I still played section events as a pro for a few years, but ended up quitting the business as Assistant pro. Actually quit golf for 7 years and started playing again 2007. Since 2008 I have competed as amateur playing Chippewa Valley Golf Association tour Wisconsin, golf am tour, golf weekly am tour, and various Minnesota golf association events. I attached word doc with some stats. Since 2008 I have been able to win a golf event each year. I have played in Minnesota State Open 3 times and State am 3 times by qualifying, 8 Club championship wins, and probably over 60 wins through different amateur tours.
Questions 4-7:
Q: Could you tell us any interesting or fun stories about your experiences in golf? Q: Do you have a favorite golf quote or saying that resonates with you? Q: Who is your favorite golfer? Q: What advice do you have for other golfers? Q: Could you share which tournaments you have participated in?
You asked any goals in golf. I would like to elevate my game and play National championship next year as an amateur, but I am not sure can take a week off from work to play. I am 50 now and will be able to play Senior National Championship. Fun golf story in 2021 played golf weekly am tour event at Troy Burne GC and hole in one #8. I hit hybrid and ball flew straight in the cup. Picture attached shows the mark side of cup and me grabbing ball out of the hole. I won the tournament by one stroke and bought drinks for everyone in the group at the turn. I also have two other hole in ones competing. The other memorable one was #10 SCGA Rancho during semester tournament 1999. Favorite quote is Old Tom Morris, “Goals are not the same as desire, desire do not intend to act on, you cannot have a goal you do not intend to act on”. My favorite golfer is Jack Nicklaus. Golf tip to share is one of the keys to solid strike is the club is delofted at impact and only way to accomplish a good strike is good purposeful practice. Advice is enjoy the game and your playing partners. Always going to make bad shots and swings, but if you can ask for help from golf friends, learn from experiences, you are going to enjoy the game. Some other interesting facts or quirks: I have no grooves on my wedges left and where two pairs of socks when playing. My driver swing is weird and stance is low. Play the old Ram zebra putter and used same putter since 1995 when started playing. Some of my favorite gold courses in Midwest are Troy Burne and playing some of the resort courses up north.
